Engine - Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair






Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor G62

Requirement

The engine is cold.

Removing

- Remove the cover for the air duct, disengage the side clips - arrows - to do so.






- Unclip the lower air duct, disengage the clips - arrows - to do so.






- Remove both the lower air duct and the intake air duct.

with a Noise Generator

- Remove the charge air pipe from the noise generator. Refer to => [ Charge Air Hose to Noise Generator ] Charge Air Hose to Noise Generator.

Continuation for All






- Loosen the hose clamp - 2 -.

- Remove the bolt - 4 -.

- Disconnect the connector - arrow -.

- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to one of the following:

GTI and Tiguan

Eos and Passat

CC

- Remove the charge air hose - 1 and 2 - and plug the charge air cooler with a clean cloth.






- Remove the bolt - 1 - and remove the charge air pipe downward.






- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the throttle valve control module.






- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove throttle valve control module.

- Remove the intake manifold support; to do so, remove the nut - 2 - and bolt - 1 -.






Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor with a Clip






- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the ECT sensor.

- Squeeze the locking mechanisms - arrows - and remove the clip.

- Remove the ECT sensor.

Install the new ECT sensor with an O-ring as quickly as possible to prevent the coolant from leaking out.

ECT Sensor with a Retaining Plate






- Disconnect the connector - 2 - from the ECT sensor.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the retaining plate - 1 -.

- Remove the ECT sensor.

Install the new ECT sensor with an O-ring as quickly as possible to prevent coolant from leaking out.

Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Replace the O-ring.

Check the coolant level.
