Oil Pump Timing Chain
Oil Pump Timing Chain
• This procedure is only possible when the transmission has been removed!
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Camshaft Bar (T10068 A)
• Counterhold Tool (T10172)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)
• Adjustment Tool (T10363)
• Silicone Adhesive Sealant (D 176 501 A1)
Removing
Requirements:
• The transmission is removed
• The drive plate is removed
• The oil pan is removed
• The sealing flange is removed
• The cylinder head cover is removed
- Remove the camshaft timing chain. Refer to => [ Camshaft Timing Chain ] Camshaft Timing Chain.
- Loosen the chain sprocket bolt - arrow - approximately 1 turn. Counter hold the vibration damper using the counterhold tool (T10172) when doing so.
- Secure the chain tensioner using a 3 mm hex wrench - A -.
- Remove the chain tensioner bolts - arrows - and tensioner.
- Remove the chain sprockets with the timing chain from the oil pump.
Installing
- Position the crankshaft at TDC.
• The milled drive sprocket tooth on the crankshaft must align with the main bearing cap joint - arrow -.
- Rotate the oil pump shaft - 1 - with the flat side - arrow - horizontal to the mark - 2 - on the oil pump.
- Install the timing change onto the guide rail and install the chain onto the crankshaft.
- Insert the large chain sprocket in the timing chain so that the dot - arrow B - is aligned with the mark on the oil pump.
- Place the chain sprocket on the oil pump shaft and tighten the bolt hand tight.
• If the chain sprocket cannot be installed, rotate the oil pump shaft slightly.
• Note the rotation direction of a used timing chain. Refer to => [ Identifying the Timing Chains ] Chain Drive Overview.
- Install the timing chain tensioner and tighten the bolts - arrows -. Tightening specification, see - item 15 - in the => [ Chain Drive Overview ] Chain Drive Overview.
- Remove the hex wrench - A -.
- Check the adjustment marks.
• The milled drive sprocket tooth on the crankshaft must align with the main bearing cap joint - arrow A -.
• The dot - arrow - must be aligned with the mark on the oil pump.
- Tighten the new chain sprocket bolt - arrow -. Tightening specification, see - item 8 - in the => [ Cylinder Block and Attachments Overview ] Cylinder Block and Attachments Overview. Counter hold the vibration damper using the counterhold tool (T10172) when doing so.
• Replace the chain sprocket bolt.
- Install the camshaft timing chain. Refer to => [ Camshaft Timing Chain ] Camshaft Timing Chain.
