Tie Rod End
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Ball Joint Puller (T10187)
• Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)
Removing
- Loosen the wheel bolts.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the wheel.
- Loosen the nut - 1 -.
- Mark the position of the tie rod end on the tie rod.
- Loosen the tie rod end nut - 2 - but do not remove it.
To protect the threads, leave the nut on the stud a few turns.
- Remove the tie rod from the wheel bearing housing and remove the nut.
1. Ball joint puller (T10187)
- Remove the tie rod end from the tie rod.
Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Make sure the correct tie rod end is installed on each side.
I Right tie rod end identified with a "A"
II Left tie rod end identified with a "B"
- Turn the tie rod end to the mark made earlier on the tie rod and secure it with the locking nut.
- Install the tie rod end into the wheel bearing housing.
- Secure l the tie rod end with a new nut.
- Install the front wheel and tighten the bolts. Refer to => [ Wheel Bolt Tightening Specifications ] Wheel Bolt Tightening Specifications.
- Perform a vehicle alignment. Refer to => [ Vehicle Alignment ] Vehicle Alignment.
