Collision Avoidance and Parking Assist Systems: Description and Operation

Parking Aid System (PDC)/Rear Lid Assistant (HDA)

The rear lid assistant (HDA) system is integrated into the parking aid system, or PDC (Parking Distance Control).

During convertible top operation, the rear lid assistant (HDA) system takes precedence over the parking aid system, or PDC (Parking Distance Control).

Before troubleshooting or servicing, the technicians must be familiar with the function and operation of parking aid system and of the rear lid assistant (HDA) system.

For additional information, refer to the Operating instructions.

General Description

Parking Aid System or PDC (Park Distance Control)

The parking aid system or PDC (Park Distance Control) supports the driver while parking by indicating acoustically the distance to an obstruction behind the vehicle.

Rear Lid Assistant (HDA)

The rear lid assistant prevents rear lid collisions when operating the convertible top. It has a monitoring area adapted in relation to the parking aid system (PDC) and warns the driver acoustically and via a text message in the instrument cluster or by halting operation of the convertible top, which may be continued by operating the convertible top switch again.

If after operation of the convertible top is halted the process is continued by operating the convertible top switch again, no monitoring via the sensors occurs - risk of damage!

Before the rear lid enters the sensitive range of the sensors, the rear lid assistant is deactivated. After deactivation, intervening obstructions are not detected!

The Parking Aid System (PDC) and Rear Lid Assistant (HDA) Consist Of:

the Parking Aid Control Module (J446)

the Warning Buzzer For Parking Aid (H15)

Left Rear Parking Aid Sensor (G203)

Left Rear Center Parking Aid Sensor (G204)

Right Rear Center Parking Aid Sensor (G205)

Right Rear Parking Aid Sensor (G206)

DTC Recognition and Display

The parking aid system is equipped with On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capabilities which assists in troubleshooting.

For troubleshooting, use Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A) in operating mode "Guided Fault Finding".

Perform output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) to test the entire parking aid system. Refer to => [ Parking Aid System Output Diagnostic Test Mode ] Testing and Inspection.
