Assembly Carrier







Assembly Carrier

When removing and installing electrical wires, make a sketch or take a photo to remember the original installation locations.

Removing

- Disconnect the battery.

- Remove driver side airbag unit. Refer to => [ Driver Airbag ] Driver Airbag

- Remove the steering wheel.

- Remove steering column trim. Refer to => [ Steering Column Trim ] Steering Column Trim

- Remove the steering column electronics control module (J527).

- Remove the Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring (F138).

- Remove the steering angle sensor (G85).

- Remove the turn signal switch (E2).

- Remove the windshield wiper switch (E).

- Remove the sun visors. Refer to => [ Sun Visor ] Sun Visor

- Remove the interior rearview mirror:

- Remove the switch unit and the lamps in the roof crossmember trim.

- Remove lower roof crossmember trim. Refer to => [ Lower Roof Crossmember Trim ] Lower Roof Crossmember Trim

- Remove roof edge trim. Refer to => [ Roof Edge Trim ] Roof Edge Trim

- Remove side instrument panel covers. Refer to => [ Instrument Panel Side Covers ] Instrument Panel Side Covers

- Remove center trim on A-pillars. Refer to => [ Center A-pillar Trim ] Center A-pillar Trim

- Remove upper trim on A-pillars. Refer to => [ Upper A-Pillar Trim ] Upper A-Pillar Trim

- Remove center cover. Refer to => [ Center Cover ] Center Cover

- Remove the passenger lower A-pillar trim. Refer to => [ Lower A-Pillar Trim ] Lower A-Pillar Trim

- Remove the headlamp range/cornering lamp control module (J745).

- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment ] Glove Compartment

- Remove center console:

Basic: => [ Center Console, Basic ] Center Console, Basic

Highline: => [ Center Console, Highline ] Center Console, Highline

- Remove driver side footwell cover. Refer to => [ Driver Side Footwell Cover ] Driver Side Footwell Cover

- Remove the headlamp switch (E1).

- Remove the Headlamp Adjuster (E102) and the Instrument Panel Illumination Dimmer Switch (E20).

- Remove right trim panel on driver side. Refer to => [ Driver Side Left Trim ] Driver Side Left Trim

- Remove left trim panel on driver side. Refer to => [ Driver Side Right Trim ] Driver Side Right Trim

- Remove instrument cluster.

- Remove instrument panel center trim. Refer to => [ Center Instrument Panel Trim ] Center Instrument Panel Trim

Vehicles equipped with a radio system or a radio navigation system

- Remove the radio.

"Climatic" A/C System with Manual Control

- Remove the heater and air conditioning controls "Climatic".

"Climatronic" A/C System with Automatic Control

- Remove the A/C Display Control Head (E87) together with the Climatronic Control Module (J255).

Vehicles without A/C system

- Remove heater and ventilation controls.

Vehicles with cell phone mount on instrument panel

- Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the cell phone mount.

All vehicles

- Remove left instrument panel fuse holder.

- Disconnect the connector on the left and right vents.

- Remove the Sunlight Photo Sensor (G107) and the Sunlight Photo Sensor 2 (G134) if equipped.

- Remove the instrument panel. Refer to => [ Instrument Panel ] Instrument Panel

- Remove the wiper arms.

- Remove the left plenum chamber cover.

- Remove the plenum chamber bolt - 1 - (20 Nm).






- Remove both expanding pins - 3 - upward.

- Remove both expanding rivets - 2 -.

- Remove the intermediate pieces - 1 - and - 4 - from the A/C unit.






- Remove the left footwell vent.

When removing the assembly carrier, pay close attention to the position of the electrical wires and their mountings; if necessary make a sketch or take photographs.

- Disconnect the wiring harness - 1 - from the Anti-Theft Immobilizer Reading Coil (D2)






- Disconnect the steering column from the assembly carrier.

- Remove the wiring harness from the assembly carrier - arrows -.






- Remove the wiring bracket - 1 - on both sides of the vehicle from the assembly carrier - arrow -.






- Remove the right and left bolts - 1 - and - 2 - (20 Nm).






- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 2 - (4.5 Nm).

- Remove both nuts - 3 - and - 4 - (9 Nm).

- Remove the bolts - 5 - and - 6 - (4.5 Nm).

- Remove both nuts - 7 - and - 8 - (8 Nm).






Using a scriber, mark the height and side position of the assembly carrier in the vehicle around the nuts - 1 - and - 2 -.

- Remove the two nuts - 1 - and - 2 - (20 Nm) on the driver side.






Using a scriber, mark the height and side position of the assembly carrier in the vehicle around the nut - 2 -.

- Remove the nut - 2 - (20 Nm) on the passenger side.






- Remove the harness connector mountings from the assembly carrier, depending on the equipment level of the vehicle.

- Pull the assembly carrier - 1 - 2 cm toward the rear.

- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 2 - (9 Nm).






- Remove the support panel - 3 - from the assembly carrier - 4 -.

When removing the assembly carrier, pay close attention to the position of the electrical wires and their mountings; if necessary make a sketch or take photographs.

- With a second technician, carefully remove the assembly carrier - 4 - from the vehicle.

Installation

- Install in reverse order of removal.

Before installing the assembly carrier, line it up with the markings made before it was removed.
