Removing

- Switch off ignition.

Vehicles with Automatic Transmission

- Loosen boot from cover.

Vehicles with Manual Transmission and Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG)

- Loosen boot from cover.

All Vehicles

- Remove parking brake lever trim.

- Remove compartment - 1 - upward.

- Remove the four bolts - 2 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove Convertible Top Operation Switch (E137) - 3 - and remove connector.

- Remove bolt - 4 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove lining mat - 5 - from cupholder.

- Remove the two bolts - 6 - (1.5 Nm).

- Thread extension - 7 - out through opening from parking brake handle.






- Remove gear selector insulation - 1 - from center console.

- Remove the two bolts - 2 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove storage compartment - 3 - from center console and (depending on vehicle equipment) disconnect wiring harnesses.

An ashtray may be installed instead of the storage compartment - 3 -, removal is the same.






- Unclip cover - 1 - from trim using a small screwdriver.

- Remove bolt - 2 - (1.5 Nm).

- Pull left footwell trim - 3 - out of mounts.

Removal of right footwell trim is identical.

- Using the Trim Removal Wedge (3409) , unclip the trim panels - 4 - on both sides in the area of the retainers.






- Remove lining mat - 1 - from cupholder.

- Remove the two bolts - 2 - and - 3 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove the two bolts - 4 - and - 5 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove bolt - 6 - (1.5 Nm).

Install the screws in this sequence: - 2 -, - 3 -, - 6 -, - 4 - and - 5 -.

- Raise center console in rear area.

- Remove center console from vehicle.
