Brake Caliper, FNR-G
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Brake Pedal Actuator (V.A.G 1869/2)
Removing
This procedure applies only for replacing or when performing subsequent service work on brake caliper.
- Remove the wheels.
- Using a screwdriver - 2 -, pry the spring - 1 - out of the brake caliper in the - direction of arrow B -. Insert the screwdriver between the spring and the brake caliper - arrow A -.
- Cover the brake caliper retaining spring with a cloth when doing this so that it cannot jump away.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 - for the brake pad wear indicator.
- Attach the bleed hose - 1 - from the bleeder bottle - 3 - to the brake caliper bleed valve - 2 - and open the bleed valve.
- Install the brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2).
- Close the bleed valve and remove the bleeder bottle.
- Remove the brake line - 4 - from the brake hose - 2 -.
- Remove the spring clamp - 1 - and remove the brake hose - 2 - from the bracket - 3 -.
- Remove the caps - arrows -.
- Loosen both guide pins and remove them from the brake caliper housing.
- Remove the brake caliper - 1 - from the brake carrier - 2 -.
- Remove the inner brake pad from the brake caliper/piston.
Installing
• The piston is pressed back.
- Install the inner brake pad and the spring - 1 - in the brake caliper/piston - 2 -.
- Install the outer brake pad - 2 - in the brake carrier - 1 -.
- Mount the brake caliper - 1 - with the inner brake pad on the brake carrier - 2 -.
- Tighten the brake caliper to the brake carrier using both guide pins.
- Install the caps - arrows -.
- Install the brake hose - 2 - into the bracket - 3 - and secure it with the spring clamp - 1 -.
- Attach the brake line - 4 - and brake hose - 2 -.
- Remove the brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2).
- Install the brake caliper spring - 1 - in such a way that the lower spring bracket is behind the brake carrier - arrow C - and the middle centering pin - arrow B - is behind the brake caliper housing - 3 -.
- Move the upper spring bracket - 2 - behind the brake carrier - arrow A -.
- Connect the connector to the brake pad wear indicator - 1 -.
- Bleed the brake system. Refer to => [ Brake System, Bleeding ] Service and Repair.
- Install the wheel.
• Before moving the vehicle, press the brake pedal firmly several times to properly seat the brake pads in their normal operating position.
• Check the brake fluid level.
