Engine, Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Servicing the clutch

- Make sure the alignment sleeves for centering the engine/transmission are installed in the cylinder block. Install them if necessary.

- When installing the "engine/transmission subassembly", make sure there is enough clearance around the subframe and the radiator.

- Adjust the engine/transmission mounts. Refer to => [ Engine/Transmission Mount, Adjusting ] Adjustments.

Engine/transmission mount bolt tightening specifications, refer to => [ Fastener Tightening Specifications ] Engine Assembly - Fastener Tightening Specifications

with a Manual Transmission

- Install the hose/line assembly or pipe to the hydraulic clutch.

- Install the shift mechanism to the transmission and adjust it, if necessary.

Vehicles with a DSG(R)

- Install the selector lever cable to the transmission and adjust it, if necessary.

Continuation for All

Make sure the particulate filter is free of tension when it is installed.

Replace the self-locking nuts, the seals, gaskets and clamps.


Danger of causing damage to the coupling element behind the particulate filter. When removing and installing:

Do not bend the coupling element more than 10°.

Do not stretch the coupling element.

Do not damage the wire mesh on the coupling element.

Install the particulate filter. Refer to => [ Particulate Filter with NOx Absorption Catalytic Converter ] Service and Repair.

- Install the drive axles at the transmission.

- Install the right drive axle heat shield and bolts - arrows -.






- Install the lock carrier.

- Install the refrigerant lines to the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor and condenser without tension.

- Charge the A/C system.

- Install the battery tray and the battery.

- Observe the notes after connecting the battery.

- Fill with coolant. Refer to => [ Coolant, Draining and Filling ] Procedures.

- Fill/bleed the fuel system. Refer to => [ Fuel System, Filling/Bleeding ] Fuel System, Filling/Bleeding.

- Check the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory of each control module. Erase all of the DTC entries that might have occurred during the assembly. Refer to the vehicle diagnostic tester.

- Check the headlamp adjustment and adjust, if necessary.

Tightening Specifications
