Fuel System, Filling/Bleeding

Fuel System, Filling/Bleeding

After installing the high pressure pump, it must be filled with fuel before starting the engine for the first time (never let the pump run dry).

When installing, make sure that no dirt enters the fuel system.

Only remove the plugs right before installing the fuel lines.

The fuel tank must be filled.

To fill the high pressure fuel pump with fuel, proceed as follows:

- Turn the ignition on.

- Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester and, depending on the software version, under Guided Functions, perform the "fuel system, bleeding" and/or "fuel system, filling/bleeding".

The fuel pumps are activated for 3 minutes.

- Then start the engine.

- After filling the fuel system, let the engine run at a moderate speed for a few minutes and then turn it off.

- Check the fuel system for leaks.

- Check the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory and if necessary, erase the DTC memory entries. Refer to the vehicle diagnostic tester.

- Then perform a road test driving faster than 20 km (12 mph) and fully pressing the accelerator pedal at least one time. Then, check the high pressure areas for leaks again.

If there is still air in the fuel system, the engine may switch to emergency mode during the road test. Turn off the engine and erase the DTC memory. Then continue the road test.

- Recheck the DTC memory.
