Front Brakes Overview, FN3

After replacing the brake pads, press the brake pedal firmly several times with the vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.

Use the brake charger/bleeder unit (VAS 5234) or (V.A.G 1869/4) to extract brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir.

Before removing a brake caliper or disconnecting a brake hose, the brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2) should be installed (to relieve pressure).

15 Inch Brakes:






1 TORX(R) Bolt

4 Nm

2 Brake Rotor

Internally vented, 288 mm diameter.

Thickness: 25 mm

Wear limit: 22 mm

Always replace on both sides.

Remove the brake caliper and brake carrier before removing.

3 Brake Pads

Thickness: 14 mm without the backing plate.

With a brake pad wear indicator.

When the wear limit is reached (limit: approximately 4 mm), the warning lamp lights up in instrument cluster.

Wear limit: 2 mm without the backing plate.

Always replace on both sides.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Pads, FN3 ] Brake Pads, FN3.

4 Spring

Insert in both holes on the brake caliper.

5 Brake Carrier

Bolted to the wheel bearing housing.

6 Brake Caliper

Do not remove the brake hose when changing the brake pads.

7 Guide Pin

30 Nm

8 Cap

Always remove.

9 Brake Hose with Ring Connection and Banjo Bolt

35 Nm

10 Bolt

190 Nm

Clean if reusing.

14 Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Wheel Speed Sensor

Before inserting the sensor, clean the inner surface of the hole and coat with hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3).

18 Wheel Hub with Bearing

The ABS sensor ring is installed on the wheel bearing.

16 Inch Brakes:
