Fuel Tank and Attachments Overview
• Hose connections are secured with either spring type or clamp type clamps.
• Always replace clamp type clamps with spring type clamps.
• Fuel hoses at the engine must only be secured with spring type clamps. The use of clamp or screw type clamps is not permissible.
• Hose clip pliers (VAS 6340) are recommended for installing spring type clamps.
1 Bolt
2 Ground Connection
• Make sure it is tight.
3 Vacuum Line
• To the leak detection pump (V144).
4 Bolt
• 10 Nm
5 Rivet
6 Protective Plate
• Riveted to the lower clamp at the factory.
• If replacing the fuel tank, position the protective plate on the filler tube and rivet at the clamp. The holes in the protective plate must align with the holes on the filler tube.
7 Wiring Router
• For the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) line.
• Clipped in on the protective plate.
8 Bolt
• 25 Nm
• Always replace.
• Only use bolts with loose washers to secure the straps. The straps could twist when the bolts are tightened if other bolts are used.
9 Fuel Tank
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Tank ] Fuel Tank.

12 Securing Strap
• Pay attention to the installed position.
13 Heat Shield
14 Supply Line
• To the fuel rail
• Make sure it is tight.
• Disconnect at the separating point, refer to => [ Coupling, Disconnecting ] Coupling, Disconnecting.
15 Fuel Filter
• Installed position: The arrow points in the direction of flow.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Filter ] Fuel Filter.
16 Vacuum Line
• From the leak detection pump to the intake manifold.
• Clipped to the fuel tank.
• Make sure it is tight.
17 Vent Line
• From the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister to the EVAP canister purge regulator valve 1 (N80)
• Clipped to the fuel tank.
• Make sure it is tight.
18 Seal
• Always replace.
• Install the seal into the fuel tank opening dry.
• Coat the inside of seal with fuel before installing the fuel delivery unit.
19 Fuel Delivery Unit
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit/Fuel Level Sensor ] Service and Repair.
• Fuel pump, checking. Refer to => [ Fuel Pump, Checking ] Fuel Pump, Checking.
• Note the installed position in the fuel tank. Refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit Installed Position ].
• With the fuel level sensor (G).
• Fuel level sensor removing and installing. Refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor ] Fuel Level Sensor.
• Clean the strainer if contaminated.
20 Lock Ring
• 110 Nm
• Make sure it is tight.
• Use the wrench (3087) to remove and install.
21 Return Line
• Blue
• Attached to the side of the fuel tank.
• Make sure it is tight.
• Disconnecting at the separating point, refer to => [ Coupling, Disconnecting ] Coupling, Disconnecting.
22 Cover
• Replace the seal if it is damaged.
23 Fuel Filler Door Unit
• With a rubber cup.
24 to the EVAP Canister
25 Supply Line
• Black
• Attached to the side of the fuel tank.
• Make sure it is tight.
• Disconnecting at the separating point, refer to => [ Coupling, Disconnecting ] Coupling, Disconnecting.
Fuel Delivery Unit Installed Position
The tab - 2 - on the fuel delivery unit must lie between the tabs - 1 and 3 -.
• The - arrow - points in the direction of travel.
• The fuel delivery unit can only be installed in this position.
