Wheel Hub: Service and Repair






Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Grease cap puller (VW 637/2)

Seal installer (3241)

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1332)

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1410)

Ring spanner insert AF 21 (T10162)

Removing

- Raise the vehicle.

- Remove wheel.

Loosen dust cap from seat by tapping lightly on claw of (VW 637/2).






- Press off dust cap.






- Remove brake carrier with brake caliper and hang on body with tie wire.

Suspend brake caliper from body.

- Remove the bolt and then remove the brake disc.

- Remove multipoint socket head bolt using (T10162).

- Pull wheel hubs/wheel bearing unit off stub axle.

Installing

- Carefully slide wheel hub/wheel bearing unit onto stub axle.

Make sure that wheel hubs/wheel bearing unit do not cant!

- Tighten using a new multipoint socket head bolt.

First tighten the bolt to the given torque specification using the torque wrench.

Use a rigid wrench to apply additional torque angle.

- Drive in dust cap using installation sleeve (3241/4).






Always replace dust caps.

Damaged dust caps allow moisture to enter. Therefore, always use the tool shown.

Further installation is performed in reverse order.

- Install the wheel and tighten the wheel bolts. Refer to => [ Wheel Bolt Tightening Specification ] [1][2]Specifications.
