Rear Seat Backrest Cover and Upholstery, Wagon

The following describes removing and installing components on the right backrest. Removing and installing components on the left backrest is identical.

Removing

Vehicles with folding armrest storage unit

- Remove storage unit with center armrest. Refer to => [ Rear Seat Pass-Through Unit with Center Armrest ] Rear Seat Pass-Through Unit with Center Armrest.

All vehicles

- Fold the bench seat forward.

- Remove the backrest. Refer to => [ Backrest ] Backrest.

- Press corresponding button in headrest guide and pull headrest - 2 - out of backrest.

- Press side locking mechanisms - arrows - and release belt extraction panel - 1 - from mounts.

Belt extraction panel - 1 - has a one-time locking mechanism and therefore must be replaced when installing.

- Using a screwdriver, pry out the side retainers - 6 - and - 8 - and remove the cover - 7 - from the backrest.

- Remove the bearing bushing - 5 - from the backrest.

- Using a screwdriver, pry all profiles - 4 - out of mounts - 3 - on rear side of backrest along the circumference.






Vehicles with folding armrest storage unit

- Using the Release Lever (T10039) , pry out the pass-through frame - 1 - on the rear side of the backrest.






- Roll up cover on the sides.

Carefully pry cover - 3 - over the headrest guide so that cover is not damaged.

- Using a small screwdriver, press apart side ribs of mounts - 1 - and pull out grip channels - 2 -.

Cut the upholstery clips - 6 -.

- Release the cover - 3 - and cushion - 4 - from the backrest frame - 5 -.






Installing

- Install in reverse order of removal.

Upholstery Clip Pliers (V.A.G. 1634) are required to install new upholstery clips.
