Engine, Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:
Servicing the Clutch:
• Vehicles with a manual transmission.
• Vehicles with a Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG).
- Make sure the alignment sleeves for the engine to transmission are installed in the cylinder block. Install them if necessary.
- Make sure there is enough clearance to the engine and transmission mounts and radiator when installing the engine/transmission subassembly.
- Adjust the engine/transmission mounts if necessary. Refer to => [ Engine and Transmission Mount, Adjusting ] Engine and Transmission Mount, Adjusting.
• Engine/transmission mount tightening specifications, refer to => [ Engine and Transmission Mount Overview ] Engine and Transmission Mount Overview.
• Electrical connections and routings.
Vehicles with a Manual Transmission:
- Install the clutch hydraulic line.
- Install the transmission shift mechanism and adjust it, if necessary.
Vehicles with a DSG:
- Install the transmission selector lever cable and adjust it, if necessary.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
The additional numbered steps must be followed to ensure the particulate filter with the NOx reduction catalytic converter is installed correctly:
• Make sure the particulate filter is not under stress when installed.
• Always replace self-locking nuts, seals, gaskets and clamps.
The decoupling elements between the particulate filter and NOx reduction catalytic converter can be damaged. When removing and installing:
• Do not bend the decoupling element more than 10°.
• Do not stretch the decoupling element.
• Do not damage the wire mesh on the decoupling element.
• Secure the decoupling element from overbending using the transportation lock (T10404).
- Install the particulate filter with NOx reduction catalytic converter and the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) filter. Refer to => [ Particulate Filter with NOx Reduction Catalytic Converter ] Service and Repair.
- Install the drive axles to the transmission.
- Install the right drive axle heat shield and bolts - arrows -.
- Install the lock carrier.
- Secure the refrigerant lines to the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor and condenser without tension.
- Charge the A/C system.
- Install the battery tray and battery.
- Observe the notes after connecting the battery.
- Fill with coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.
- Fill the fuel system. Refer to => [ Fuel System, Filling and Bleeding ] Fuel System, Filling and Bleeding.
- Check the diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memories of all control modules and erase all DTC entries which may have occurred during the reassembly. Refer to "Vehicle Self-Diagnosis" in the vehicle diagnostic tester.
- Check the headlamp adjustment and adjust if necessary.
