Front Seat Backrest Cover and Upholstery

The following describes removing and installing components on the left seat. Removing and installing components on the right seat is identical.

Removing

- Mount the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) on the engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095).

- Remove front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat ] Front Seat.

- Attach the seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).

- Remove right trim on seat:

Seat without folding backrest => [ Right Seat Trim ] Right Seat Trim.

Seat with folding backrest => [ Left Folding Passenger Seat Trim ] Left Folding Passenger Seat Trim.

Vehicles with manual seat adjustment

- Remove left trim on seat:

Seat without folding backrest => [ Left Seat Trim ] Left Seat Trim.

Seat with folding backrest => [ Left and Right Folding Passenger Seat Trim ] Left and Right Folding Passenger Seat Trim.

Vehicles with power backrest adjustment on the front passenger seat (USA)

- Remove right trim on seat. Refer to => [ Right Seat Trim Panel with Power Lumbar Adjustment, USA ] Right Seat Trim Panel with Power Lumbar Adjustment, USA

Vehicles with electric seat adjustment

- Remove left power seat trim. Refer to => [ Power Seat Trim, Left ] Power Seat Trim, Left.

All vehicles

- Remove front seat backrest. Refer to => [ Left Front Seat Backrest ] Left Front Seat Backrest.

- Attach the backrest to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).

- Press button in headrest and pull headrest - 2 - out of backrest.

Only Golf Wagon from MY 10

- Pus the cushion on the headrest guide - arrow -.






- Push the headrest guide - arrow - all the way using trim removal wedge (3409).

- Push the button - 2 - and pull the headrest - 1 - out of the backrest.

Procedure for all vehicles

- Remove headrest guides - 1 - and - 3 -. Refer to => [ Headrest Guides ] Headrest Guides.

Only vehicles with manual lumbar adjustment

- Remove adjusting wheel - 4 - for lumbar adjustment using disassembly pliers (3392).

All vehicles

- Disengage backrest profile - 5 - on both sides.

- Release profile - 6 - from mount - 7 -.






- Disengage tension wire - 1 - from backrest frame on left and right sides.

- Disengage profiles - 2 - on left and right sides from mounts - 3 -.

- Roll backrest cover upward.

- Using a small screwdriver, unclip the backrest cover retainers - 4 - from the mounts - 5 - in the cushion.






- Roll cover upward further.

- Unclip the cover retainers from the mounts in the cushion.

For the sake of illustration, backrest cover is depicted as partially removed in the illustration.

- Cut the upholstery clips - 1 -. Upholstery clips must be replaced during installation.

- Disconnect the tension wire - 2 - on both sides from the cushion wire - 3 -.

- Remove the cover and upholstery - 4 - from the backrest frame - 5 -.






Installing

- Install in reverse order of removal.

Upholstery clip pliers (V.A.G 1634) is required to install new upholstery clips.
