Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converter

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

hot bolt paste (G 052 118 A3)

Removing

- Remove the right underbody panel retainers - arrows - and panel, if equipped.






Vehicles with engine codes BGP and CBTA:

- Unclip the wire - arrow -, pull off the bracket - 1 - and disconnect the connector - 2 - for the oxygen sensor after three way catalytic converter (G130).






Vehicles with engine codes BGQ and CBUA:

- Unclip the wires - arrows -, pull off the bracket - 2 - and disconnect the connectors - 1 - for the oxygen sensor after three way catalytic converter and - 3 - for the oxygen sensor in bank 1 center three way catalytic converter (G465).






Continuation for all Vehicles:

- Loosen the nuts for the clamp - 1 -. The front crossmember must not be removed.






The flex joint in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10 °, otherwise it may be damaged.

- Remove the exhaust manifold to front exhaust pipe nuts - 2 - and the suspended mount bolts - 3 -.






- Remove the front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter - 1 - from the exhaust manifold, slide it toward the front at the sides and guide it under the front crossmember.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:

Replace gaskets and self-locking nuts.

Install the exhaust system free of stress. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Exhaust System, Installing.

Tightening Specifications






1 Coat the stud bolts on the exhaust manifold with hot bolt paste (G 052 118 A3)
