Sliding Door Binding When Fully Open
Technical Background
This involves inspecting the right and/or left sliding door operation and if necessary connecting the sliding door latch cable to the interior door handle, replacing the interior sliding door handle and/or adjusting the sliding door
latch position.
Note:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built before August 5, 2010.
The customer may experience the sliding door binding on the right and/or left side striker when in the full open position and closing from the inside handle. This will require higher efforts to release the hold open latch to close
the door.
Production Solution
Optimized sliding door operation beginning August 5, 2010.
Service
Procedure
1. Open the right and/or left sliding door to the full open position. Does the sliding door stay in the full open (latched) position or is excessive force required to close the door using the interior door handle?
YES: Continue with repair procedure.
NO: Further diagnosis required, this bulletin does not apply.
2. Remove the interior sliding door trim panel, see Repair Group 70 in ElsaWeb.
Was the latch cable connected to the interior door handle?
YES: Proceed to step 4.
NO: Re-secure the latch cable and verify the sliding door stays in the full open (latched) position in step 3.
3. Did the sliding door stay in the full open (latched) position?
YES: Install the interior door trim panel, see Repair Group 70 in ElsaWeb. Return the vehicle to the customer.
NO: Proceed to step 4
4. Inspect the interior door handle. Was the handle broken?
YES: Replace the interior door handle, see Repair Group 70 in ElsaWeb. Verify the sliding door remains in the full open (latched) position. Proceed to step 5
NO: Proceed to step 6
5. Did the door stay in the full open (latched) position?
YES: Install the interior sliding door trim panel see Repair Group 70 in ElsaWeb. Return the vehicle to the customer.
NO: Install the interior sliding door trim panel see Repair Group 70 in ElsaWeb. Continue to Step 6.
6. Remove the right or left sliding door scuff plate.
7. Remove the bolts shown in figure 1, number 1 to slightly lower the latch bracket.
8. Stack 2 washers (Figure 2) and install them between the floor and the latch bracket at each bolt location (figure 1, number 2).
9. Re-install the latch bracket bolts and verify the sliding door will latch in the full open position by opening and closing the door 5 times.
10. Re-install the sliding door scuff plate and interior sliding door trim panel.
