Service

Diagnosis

Road test the vehicle for 5 minutes and intermittently apply the brakes.

Were there any vibrations experienced when braking?

Yes: Proceed to repair procedure.

No: Proceed to brake lining inspection.

Brake Lining Inspection

Remove both front tire and wheel assemblies, see Repair Manual Suspension, Wheels, Steering Group 44 in ElsaWeb.

Using a Brake Lining Thickness Gauge or Brake Pad/Shoe Gauge, measure brake lining thickness.

Perform the repair procedure if the brake lining usable material, at its thinnest point, measures 4mm (0.1575 in.) or less.

Repair Procedure

Remove the front brake linings and brake discs, see Repair Manual, Chassis, Brake System Group 46 Mechanical Components in ElsaWeb.

Clean brake disc to hub face contact surface to ensure flat contact surface.

Install replacement brake discs Part No. 7B0615301C and front brake linings from kit Part No. 7B0698151F, see Repair Manual, Chassis, Brake System Group 46 Mechanical Components in ElsaWeb.

Note:
Make sure that the audible wear indicator (if equipped) is placed toward the top when the inboard brake lining is installed on each side of the vehicle.

If the brake linings have a protective paper on the rear face of the brake lining plate, it must be removed before installation.
