Valve Body






Valve Body

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Disconnect Tool (8875A)

Removing

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.

- Remove the battery tray.

- Remove the relay at the core support, if equipped.

- Drain the cooling system.

- Reposition the clamps for the upper radiator hose and remove the hose.

- Remove the exhaust crossover pipe.

- Remove the coolant recovery reservoir.

- Disconnect the oil cooler lines (1) from the transaxle using (8875A).






- Remove the shift cable (1) from the manual lever (2).






- Disconnect the solenoid pack electrical connector (2) at the valve body oil pan (1).






- Remove the front sound damper cover fasteners (1) and cover (2), if equipped.






- Remove the top valve body oil pan (3) bolts.






- Remove the valve body oil pan (1) upper bolts.

- Turn the wheel fully to the left.

- Remove the bolt (2) at the ground cable (3), if equipped.






- Remove the clip (1) at valve body pan, if equipped.

- Move cable away from the valve body pan.

- Remove the lower valve body oil pan lower bolts (1) and drain the transmission fluid.

- Remove the valve body oil pan.

- Disconnect the range sensor electrical connector (1).






- Remove the detent arm bolt (3).






- Remove detent arm (1).

- Remove the valve body bolts (1).






- Insure that the manual lever is fully forward in order to keep the manual valve pin (3) from binding.






- Pull the valve body away from the underdrive compounder assembly oil transfer tubes (2) and lift up on the valve body in order to clear the manual valve pin past the slot in the detent lever.

Installing

- Install a new 2/4 clutch oil seal (2).






- Install new O-rings (1) onto the underdrive compounder assembly oil transfer tubes (2).






- Insure that the manual lever is fully forward in order to keep the manual valve pin (3) from binding.






- Set the manual valve pin (3) into the slot in the detent lever.

- Set the valve body into the underdrive compounder assembly oil transfer tubes (2) and press the valve body into place.

- Install the valve body bolts (1) and tighten the bolts to 6 Nm (50 in lbs).






- Install the detent arm (1) onto the pin at the valve body.






- Install the detent arm bolt (3) and tighten to 6 Nm (50 in lbs).

- Connect the range sensor electrical connector (1).






- Install the valve body oil pan, use a bead of RTV sealant.

- Install the upper valve body oil pan bolts (3) and tighten to 12 Nm (105 in lbs).






- Install the lower valve body oil pan bolts (2) and tighten to 12 Nm (105 in lbs).

- Install the front sound damper cover (2) and fasteners (1), if equipped.






- Turn the wheel fully to the left.

- Install the bolt (2) at the ground cable (3), if equipped.






- Install the clip (1) at valve body pan, if equipped.

- Connect the solenoid pack electrical connector (2) at the valve body oil pan (1).






- Install the shift cable (1) to the manual lever (2).






- Connect the oil cooler lines (1) to the transaxle. An audible click should be heard. Verify connection by pulling outward.






- Install the lower radiator hose and position the clamps.

- Install the coolant recover reservoir.

- Install the exhaust crossover pipe.

- Install the relay at the core support, if equipped.

- Install the battery tray.

- Connect the negative battery cable.

- Fill the cooling system.

- Fill transmission with fluid and road test.
