B1BA5
B1BA5 - Airbag Squib Configuration Mismatch
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to.
Theory of Operation
When powered, the occupant restraint controller sends a test current to the squibs. During this test, the squibs discovered are checked for agreement with the pre - programmed vehicle configuration of components assigned to the module. the ORC still monitors squib circuits that are unused even though the module is not pre - programmed for those Squibs.
• When Monitored: The ORC checks for the presence of a device once at every power up during the module initialization process.
• Set Condition: This DTC sets when the ORC detects the presence of side airbags while the configuration of the module does not reflect side airbags should be present. Once set, this DTC is latched for the entire power cycle.
Always perform the Pre - Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding.
Test Step 1 - Determine Active or Stored DTC
• Ensure the battery is fully charged.
• Turn the ignition ON.
• With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
Is the DTC active or stored?
ORC - Active DTC
• Go to Test Step 2 => [ Test Step 2 - Check ORC and Vehicle Configuration ]
ORC - Stored DTC
• Perform the Restraints System Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. ORC Restraints System Intermittent Test
Test Step 2 - Check ORC and Vehicle Configuration
• With the scan tool, check the ORC and vehicle configuration.
• With the scan tool, check for resistance present on one unused squib component and not the other.
Is there resistance present on any one unused squib component and not the other?
Yes
• Repair the unused squib circuit.
• Perform the Restraints System Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. ORC Restraints System Intermittent Test
Turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
No
• Replace the ORC.
• Perform the Restraints System Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. ORC Restraints System Intermittent Test
• Ensure the part number of the replacement module is the correct part number for the vehicle.
If the occupant restraint controller is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
