C157E-Rear Axle Level Sensor Circuit Low






For a complete wiring diagram, refer to.

When Monitored: Continuously.

Set Condition: The HIDT detects the Headlamp Leveling Sensor Rear Signal circuit is to low.






Diagnose and repair any system voltage DTCs before continuing with this test.

Test Step 1 - ACTIVE DTC

Ignition on, engine not running.

With the scan tool, record and erase DTCs.

Turn the headlamps on.

With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Is the status Active for this DTC?

Yes

Go to Test Step 2

No

Go to Test Step 8

Test Step 2 - (L964) HEADLAMP LEVELING SENSOR 5 VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND







Turn the headlamps off.

Turn the ignition off to the lock position.

Disconnect the Rear Headlamp Leveling Sensor harness connector.

Disconnect the HIDT harness connector.

Measure the resistance between ground and the (L964) Headlamp Leveling Sensor 5 Volt Supply circuit in the HIDT harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

Yes

Repair the (L964) Headlamp Leveling Sensor 5 Volt Supply circuit for a short to ground.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

No

Go to Test Step 3

Test Step 3 - (L963) HEADLAMP LEVELING SENSOR REAR SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND







Measure the resistance between ground and the (L963) Headlamp Leveling Sensor Rear Signal circuit in the HIDT harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

Yes

Repair the (L963) Headlamp Leveling Sensor Rear Signal circuit for a short to ground.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

No

Go to Test Step 4

Test Step 4 - (L964) HEADLAMP LEVELING SENSOR 5 VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE







Measure the resistance of the (L964) Headlamp Leveling Sensor 5 Volt Supply circuit between the Rear Headlamp Leveling Sensor harness connector and the HIDT harness connector.

Is the resistance above 5.0 Ohms?

Yes

Repair the (L964) Headlamp Leveling Sensor 5 Volt Supply circuit for an open or high resistance.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

No

Go to Test Step 5

Test Step 5 - (L963) HEADLAMP LEVELING SENSOR REAR SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE







Measure the resistance of the (L963) Headlamp Leveling Sensor Rear Signal circuit and the Rear Headlamp Leveling Sensor harness connector and the HIDT harness connector.

Is the resistance above 5.0 Ohms?

Yes

Repair the (L963) Headlamp Leveling Sensor Rear Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

No

Go to Test Step 6

Test Step 6 - (L964) HEADLAMP LEVELING SENSOR 5 VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT SHORTED TO (L965) HEADLAMP LEVELING SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT







Measure the resistance of the (L964) Headlamp Leveling Sensor 5 Volt Supply circuit and the (L965) Headlamp Leveling Sensor Return in the HIDT harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

Yes

Repair the (L964) Headlamp Leveling Sensor 5 Volt Supply circuit shorted to the (L965) Headlamp Leveling Sensor Return.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

No

Go to Test Step 7

Test Step 7 - REAR HEADLAMP LEVELING SENSOR

Replace the Rear Headlamp Leveling Sensor. .

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

Ignition on, engine not running.

With the scan tool, erase DTCs.

Turn the headlamps on.

With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Does the DTC reset or is the status Active for this DTC?

Yes

Replace High Intensity Discharge Translator (HIDT). .

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

No

Test Complete.

Test Step 8 - INTERMITTENT WIRING HARNESS AND CONNECTORS

The conditions necessary to set this DTC are not present at this time.

Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring harness and connectors specific to this circuit.

Wiggle test the wiring harness and connectors while monitoring the scan tool data relative to this circuit.

Using the scan tool, monitor the data related to this circuit while performing the wiggle test. Look for the data to change or for the DTC to reset.

Were there any problems found?

Yes

Repair as necessary.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

No

Test Complete.
