Oil Pump

Disassembly






- Remove the cap retaining pin (4).

- Drill a 3.175 mm (1/8 inch.) hole into the relief valve cap (3).

- Insert a self threading sheet metal screw into the cap (3).

- Clamp the screw into a vise and while supporting the oil pump body, remove the cap (3) by tapping the oil pump body using a soft hammer. Discard the retainer cap (3).

- Remove the spring (2) and relief valve (1).

- Remove the oil pump cover bolts and cover.

- Remove the pump rotors.

- Wash all parts in a suitable solvent and inspect them carefully for damage or wear.

Assembly






- Assemble the oil pump using new parts as required.

- Install the pump rotors.

- Install the oil pump cover and bolts. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (106 in lbs).

- Lubricate the new pressure relief valve (1) with oil.


The pressure relief valve must be installed as shown or engine damage may occur.

- Install the valve (1), spring (2) and a new cap (3).

- Install a new pin (4).

- Prime oil pump before installation by filling rotor cavity with engine oil.

- If oil pressure is low and pump is within specifications, inspect for worn engine bearings or other reasons for oil pressure loss.
