Front A/C Receiver Drier

Front A/C Receiver Drier

Review the applicable warnings and cautions for this system before performing the following operation. Failure to follow the warnings and cautions may result in serious or fatal injury.

Removing

- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

- Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to => [ Refrigerant System, Recovery ] Refrigerant System, Recovery.

- Remove the air cleaner housing and inlet duct from the engine compartment.

- Remove the front and the rear sections of the A/C liquid line (1 and 2) from the A/C receiver/drier (4). Refer to => [ A/C Refrigerant Liquid Line, Front ] A/C Refrigerant Liquid Line, Front.

- Remove the bolt (3) that secures the A/C receiver/drier to the right front frame rail and remove the receiver/drier from the engine compartment.

Installing

Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Refer to => [ A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil Charge ] A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil Charge. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

The A/C receiver/drier must be replaced if an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred. Failure to replace the A/C receiver/drier can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the refrigerant oil capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to => [ A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil Charge ] A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil Charge.

If only the A/C receiver/drier is being replaced, add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system. Use only the refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals and gaskets is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals and metal gaskets may result in a refrigerant system leak.

- Position the A/C receiver/drier (4) into the engine compartment.

- Install the bolt (3) that secures the A/C receiver/drier to the right front frame rail. Tighten the bolt to 9 Nm (80 in lbs).

- Install the front and rear sections of the A/C liquid line (1 and 2) onto the A/C receiver/drier using new O-ring seals. Tighten the bolts to 13.5 Nm (120 in lbs). Refer to => [ A/C Refrigerant Liquid Line, Front ] A/C Refrigerant Liquid Line, Front.

- Install the air cleaner housing and inlet duct.

- Connect the negative battery cable.

- Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to => [ Refrigerant System, Evacuate ] Refrigerant System, Evacuate.

- If the A/C receiver/drier is being replaced, add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system. When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the refrigerant oil capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to => [ A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil Charge ] A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil Charge. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

- Charge the refrigerant system. Refer to => [ Refrigerant System, Charging ] Refrigerant System, Charging.
