Subframe without Steering Gear

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Removing

Subframe is removed together with control arms.

- Remove the lower noise insulation.

- Remove wheels.

- Remove the nuts - arrows - on left and right side of vehicle.






- Remove the control arm from the ball joint.

- Remove exhaust system bracket from subframe- arrows -.






- If equipped, remove the heat shield bolts - arrows -.






- If equipped, remove the subframe heat shield.

- Remove coupling rod from stabilizer bar.

- Remove pendulum support from transmission, unscrew bolts - 13 - to do so.






- Subframe, locating, refer to => [ Subframe, Securing ] Subframe, Securing.

- Remove the steering gear bolts- 5 - and - 6 -.






- Remove the stabilizer bolts - 7 - and - 8 -.






- Remove the subframe bolts - 9 - and - 10 -.






- Lower the subframe using the (V.A.G 1383 A).

- Remove cable guide from subframe - arrow -.






- Secure steering gear to body.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse sequence.

- Install the wheels. Refer to => [ Tightening Specification for Mounting Wheels ] [1][2]Specifications.

- Install noise insulation and tighten, tightening specifications.
