Fuel Tank and Attachments Overview
1 Cap
• Replace if damaged.
2 Bolt
3 Ground Connection
• Make sure it is secure.
4 Vent Line
• To the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister.
• Make sure it is secure.
5 Locking Ring
• 110 Nm
• Make sure it is secure.
• Use the wrench (T10202) to remove and install.
6 Fuel Delivery Unit
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit ] Fuel System Components.
• Checking the fuel pump. Refer to => [ Fuel Pump, Checking ] Fuel Pump, Checking.
• Note the installed position on the fuel tank. Refer to => [ Installed Position of the Fuel Delivery Unit Flange and Fuel Level Sensor 2 ].
• With the fuel level sensor (G)
• Fuel level sensor removing and installing. Refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor (G) ] Fuel System Components.
• Clean the strainer if contaminated.
7 Supply Line
• Black
• Clipped to the side of the fuel tank.
• Make sure it is secure.
8 Flange, Left Side
• With the fuel level sensor 2 (G169).
• With the suction jet pump.
• With the pressure relief valve.
• With the fuel filter.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor 2 (G169) ] Fuel System Components.
9 Nut
• 3.5 Nm
10 Fuel Pump Control Module Bracket
11 Fuel Pump Control Module (J538)
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Pump Control Module (J538) ] Fuel System Components.
12 Seal
• Replace if damaged.
• To install, place into the fuel tank opening dry.
• Lubricate with fuel only when installing the flange.
13 Fuel Tank
• Support using the engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A) when removing.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Tank ] Fuel System Components.
14 Bolt
• 25 Nm
• Always replace.
• To secure the fuel tank mounting straps, only bolts with loose washers may be used. If other bolts are used, the straps could twist when the bolts are tightened. Bolt allocation.
15 Securing Strap
• Note the installed position.
16 Bolt
• 25 Nm
• Always replace.
17 Retainer
18 Heat Shield
19 Vent Line
• Clipped to the side of the fuel tank.
• Make sure it is secure.
20 Vent Line
• Make sure it is secure.
21 Bolt
• 8 Nm + 90° (1/4) additional turn.
• Always replace.
22 Fuel Filler Door Unit
• With a rubber seal.

The tab - 1 - points in the direction of travel.
Fuel level sensor 2 - 2 -:
The tab - 1 - points in the direction of travel.
