AdBlue, Filling

AdBlue, Filling

AdBlue is a 32.5% solution of high-purity urea used to treat exhaust gas (SCR catalytic converter) on diesel engines. The urea solution must meet quality requirements according to ISO 22241-1. It is a clear liquid and is synthetically manufactured.

AdBlue is the base used to reduce the poisonous emissions of oxides of nitrogen from the exhaust of diesel vehicles. AdBlue reduces this nitrogen oxide down to water and nitrogen, which are a main component of air.

AdBlue Tank in Luggage Compartment, Filling

Never allow AdBlue to come in contact with clothing or vehicle body parts. If this happens, flush the AdBlue fluid away with clear water and use a lint-free cotton towel.

Make sure the AdBlue filling tool (VAS 6542) lines are never bent or blocked. The vent line can be turned 360° making it easier to handle.

Perform the work procedure exactly in the specified sequence:

1. Open the AdBlue tank cap in the luggage compartment

2. Clean the AdBlue tank filler tube with a cotton towel, which was soaked in water. (lint-free)

3. Position the AdBlue filling tool (VAS 6542) on the AdBlue tank filler tube and tighten it.

4. Close the ball valves on the vent line and fill line on the AdBlue filling tool (VAS 6542).

5. Position the AdBlue filling tool (VAS 6542) on the AdBlue container, refer to ETKA, and tighten it.

6. Position the AdBlue container on the engine/transmission jack (VAG 1383 A) with the transmission support (3282) and the AdBlue adapter plate -XXXX--. While doing this, make sure there is only a 60 to 80 cm difference in height between the AdBlue container and the AdBlue filler tube.

7. Open the vent line ball valve.

8. Open the fill line ball valve.

The AdBlue tank is filled to the maximum when:

The AdBlue container visibly starts to contract.

The vent line fills with AdBlue.

If the AdBlue container empties completely during the filling process and there is still no AdBlue coming out of the vent line, then repeat steps 4 through 8 again.

9. Close the fill line ball valve on the tank.

10. Now close the vent line ball valve on the AdBlue container.

11. Disconnect the quick-release coupling on the vent line and let any excess AdBlue flow into a suitable container.

The procedure is complete when the correct fill level in the AdBlue tank is automatically reached.

CAUTION!
Any remaining AdBlue must be disposed of properly and may not be used again. Observe all waste disposal regulations.

12. When the AdBlue stops flowing out of the vent line, remove the AdBlue filling tool (VAS 6542) from the AdBlue filler tube.

13. Clean the AdBlue filler tube and cap with the lint-free cotton towel, which was soaked in water.

14. Open the fill line ball valve and let any remaining AdBlue drain back into the container.

15. Remove the AdBlue filling tool (VAS 6542) from the AdBlue container.
