Battery Main Switch and Disconnect Switch (E74)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)


When disconnecting and connecting the battery, always perform the work procedure as described in the repair manual. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting. Not adhering to sequence will result in the deactivation of Main Battery Switch -E74- and subsequent damage to electrical system components.

Removal


When disconnecting battery, procedure must always be followed as described in => [ Disconnecting Sequence ] One-Battery Layout with Auxiliary Battery and Two Battery Layout, Disconnecting and Connecting. Not adhering to sequence will result in the deactivation of Main Battery Switch -E74- and subsequent damage to electrical system components.

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Release retaining tab - arrow - and remove cover.






- If necessary, remove the lead coating on the multi-pin connector.

- Open protective cap - 1 - of multi-pin harness connector, disengage retaining tab - 2 - and disconnect harness connector.






- Remove the M8 nuts - arrows - and remove battery isolation system.






Installation

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Tighten the fasteners to the specification shown in => [ Fastener Tighten Specifications, Battery ] [1][2]Battery.

- If necessary, replace seal on multi-pin harness connector.

Observe notes for threaded connections of battery terminals. Refer to => [ Battery Post/Terminal ] Battery Post/Terminal.

- Connect battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
