Wheel Hub with Wheel Bearing, 16 Inch Suspension
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine-/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A) with universal transmission support (V.A.G 1359/2)
• Hydraulic cylinder (VAS 6178)
• Assembly tool (T10205)
• Separating tool (3 - Kukko 15/3)
• Hollow piston cylinder (VAS 6179)
• Pressure gauge w/connection (VAS 6179/1)
• During the entire work procedure, always ensure proper seating of tools and components (wheel bearing/wheel hub).
• Always place (V.A.G 1383 A) beneath wheel bearing housing during entire work procedure (danger of accident if parts fall off).
Pulling Out
Before starting work, stabilizer bars must be coupled in vehicles with separable stabilizer bars. Otherwise, there is the danger of injury caused by unintentional coupling.
- Remove drive axle. Refer to => [ Drive Axle ] Rear Suspension.
- Secure brake disc using a wheel bolt - arrow -.
- Remove brake caliper and engage on body with wire.
- Remove brake disc.
- Unclip wire for wheel speed sensor from retainer.
- Remove ABS wheel speed sensor.
- Unhook parking brake cables at wheel bearing housing.
- Remove brake shoes of parking brake.
- Install Grips (T10205/12) with wheel bolts on wheel hub.
- Bolt the (T10205/12) to the wheel hub with the wheel bearing.

- Mount tools as depicted in illustration.

9. Press piece (T10205/3)
- Pull out wheel hub with wheel bearing while holding device securely.
Pressing In
- Mount tools as depicted in illustration.

- Connect (VAS 6179/1) between (VAS 6178) and hydraulic line of (VAS 6178).
Pressures, described in the following, apply only to the (VAS 6178).
Shortly before pressing-in procedure is completed, readout pressure must be between 90 and 140 bar.
Maximum pressure must not exceed 310 bar.
- Press in wheel hub until stop.
- Install the drive axle. Refer to => [ Drive Axle ] Rear Suspension.
Further installation is in the reverse sequence to removal.
