Removing

It is not possible to remove the trim without damaging it.

A second technician is required for detaching the adhesive beads.

The new trim is delivered as a replacement part complete with all of the seals.

Reuse the previous dimensions when installing the new trim.

Perform the following:

- Remove the glass panel for the panorama sliding/tilting sunroof, refer to => [ Glass Panel for Panorama Sliding/Tilting Sunroof ] Glass Panel for Panorama Sliding/Tilting Sunroof.

- Remove the wind deflector. Refer to => [ Wind Deflector ] Wind Deflector.

- Stick the seal on the windshield firmly to the windshield.

Apply adhesive tape around the borders of the body surfaces for the panorama sliding/tilting sunroof trim as protection from damages caused by paint.

- Make a mark spanning the entire length of the trim traveling outward from the roof pillar on the left and right in the distance - a - = 20 mm.

- Make another marking with a distance of - b - = 20 mm from the windshield outward.

Use a depth stop with the setting at 5 mm due to the narrowness of the opening between the trim and the frame.

- Cut the trim strips along the markings using the window cutter (V.A.G 1561A) - 1 - and the blade, 80 mm in diameter (V.A.G 1561/26) - 2 -.

The adhesive beads for the trim are made accessible by removing the edges on the trim.

- Thread in with the cutting wire - 2 - on the front left between the trim - 1 - and the frames and secure the ends in two pulling handles (V.A.G 1351/1) - 3 -.

- Cut through the side and rear adhesive beads - arrow a - using "sawing" movements.

There are 3 adhesive beads on the rear roof crossmember that require more force.

Guide the cutting wire close to the trim so that none of the underlying components become damaged.

- Thread the cutting wire on the right in the front between the trim and the frame and secure the ends in the pulling handles (V.A.G 1351/1).

- Cut through the adhesive bead on the side using "sawing" motions - arrow b -.

- Then cut through the adhesive beads on the front roof crossmember in the same way - arrow c - and remove the trim from the frames.

There are 2 adhesive beads on the front roof crossmember that require more force.

Installing

Keep the adhesive surfaces on the frames free from debris and grease.

Only cut back adhesive surface shortly before installation.

Do not prime or use a cleaning solution on the adhesive surface.

Perform the following:

To prepare enough of the assembly adhesive, 2 cartridges should be heated up.

A second mechanic is required to apply the assembly adhesive.

- Install the wind deflector. Refer to => [ Wind Deflector ] Wind Deflector.

- Install the glass panel for the panorama sliding/tilting sunroof, refer to => [ Glass Panel for Panorama Sliding/Tilting Sunroof ] Glass Panel for Panorama Sliding/Tilting Sunroof.

The installation must be performed with the glass panel closed.

The location of the adhesive beads - 1 - is imprinted in the trim - 2 -.

- Cut back the remaining adhesive from the sunroof just before installing.

- Lightly sand the adhesive surfaces on the trim with fine-grain sandpaper.

- Clean the adhesive bead area on the trim with the cleaning solution. Refer to Parts Catalog.

- Prime the area for the adhesive bead with glass/paint primer (Refer to Parts Catalog) and let it dry for 10 minutes.

- Apply the assembly adhesive on the glass/paint primer. Refer to the Parts Catalog.

The width of the adhesive bead is 8 mm, the height of the adhesive bead is 12 mm.

- Attach the trim to the windshield, insert it into the roof opening and slide it toward the rear until the distance between the rear lid and the trim is 5 mm.

- Center the trim between the left and right roof pillars.

- Secure the trim with the adhesive tape and wait the minimum curing time.

Minimum Curing Time

Only use the assembly adhesive listed below to install the trim.

This adhesive was chosen due to its elasticity and does not cause scratches in the painted trim after hardening.

The vehicle can only be used after the minimum curing time has elapsed.
