Exhaust System Overview






1 Nut

• 40 Nm

• Always replace.

• Coat the stud bolts on the exhaust manifold with hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3).

•

2 Heated Oxygen sensor (G39)

• 55 Nm

• Bank 1, sensor 1.

• The threads of new oxygen sensors are coated with hot bolt paste.

• When reusing the old oxygen sensor, grease only the threads with hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) , the paste must not get into the slots of the oxygen sensor body.

3 Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converters

Danger of causing damage to the coupling element.

• Do not bend the coupling element more than 10°.

• Do not stretch the coupling element.

• Do not damage the wire mesh on the coupling element.

• Protect the catalytic converter from shocks and impact stress.

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converter ] Service and Repair.

• Align the exhaust system free of tension. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning Free of Tension ] Exhaust System, Aligning Free of Tension.

4 Oxygen Sensor after Three Way Catalytic Converter (G130)

• 55 Nm

• Bank 1, sensor 2.

• The threads of new oxygen sensors are coated with hot bolt paste.

• When reusing the old oxygen sensor, grease only the threads with hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) , the paste must not get into the slots of the oxygen sensor body.

5 Retaining Loop

• Replace if damaged.

6 Center Muffler

• Original equipment as one unit with the rear muffler. For repairs, replace each separately.

• Separating the exhaust system. Refer to => [ Exhaust Pipe and Muffler, Separating ] Exhaust Pipe and Muffler, Separating.

7 Rear Clamping Sleeve

• For individual replacement of the center and rear mufflers.

• Tighten the threaded connections evenly. Tightening specification and installed position. Refer to => [ Tightening Specification and Installed Dimension of the Clamping Sleeve ] Clamping Sleeve Locations.

8 Rear Muffler

• Original equipment as one unit with the center muffler. For repairs, replace each separately.

• Separating the exhaust system, refer to => [ Exhaust Pipe and Muffler, Separating ] Exhaust Pipe and Muffler, Separating.

9 Suspended Mount

• Replace if damaged.

10 Bolt

• 25 Nm

11 Nut

• Tighten the threaded connections evenly. Tightening specification and installed position. Refer to => [ Tightening Specification and Installed Dimension of the Clamping Sleeve ] Clamping Sleeve Locations.

12 Bolt

• 25 Nm

13 Front Clamping Sleeve

• Tighten the threaded connections evenly. Tightening specification and installed position. Refer to => [ Tightening Specification and Installed Dimension of the Clamping Sleeve ] Clamping Sleeve Locations.

14 Nut

• Tighten the threaded connections evenly. Tightening specification and installed position. Refer to => [ Tightening Specification and Installed Dimension of the Clamping Sleeve ] Clamping Sleeve Locations.

15 Bolt

• 25 Nm

16 Suspended Mount

• Replace if damaged.

17 Gasket

• Always replace.
