Clutch Pedal

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Pliers (T10005)

• Assembly Tool (T10178)

Removing

- Move the driver seat all the way back and raise the steering wheel to its highest position.

- Remove the drivers side trim and the cover under the trim. Refer to "Storage Compartments, Covers and Trim".

- Remove the bolt - 2 - and the left footwell vent - 1 -.






- Remove the impact bolster support bolt - 1 - and support - 2 -.






- Remove the nut - arrow - and the ground wire from the steering column.






- Press the tabs - arrow - on both sides of the wire guide - 1 - toward the inside and remove the guide - 1 - from the steering column.






- Remove the sound absorber - arrow - from the clutch pedal bracket, if equipped.






- Remove the retainers - A -.

- Remove the sound absorber.






- Push the sound absorber near the upper nut - 1 - above the clutch pedal - A - in the - direction of the arrow -.






- Remove the nut - 2 - and the bolt - 5 - and then remove the clutch pedal - 1 - from the bracket - 3 -.






- Move the clutch pedal slightly downward and remove the over-center spring - 4 -.

- Remove the clutch pedal from the clutch master cylinder using the pliers (T10005).






- Remove the clutch pedal.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal while observing the following:

• Replace the self-locking nuts.

- Install the mount - 2 - onto the clutch master cylinder actuator rod - 1 -.






- Press the mount into the clutch pedal - 3 - until it engages audibly in the notch in the clutch pedal.

- Install the over-center spring - 2 - into the bracket from the top and hold the end of the spring in its installed position using the assembly tool (T10178).






• The mounting area - arrow - for the clutch pedal pivot pin - A - must be positioned vertically.






- Insert the clutch pedal pivot pin - A - into the mounting area of the over-center spring.

- Press the clutch pedal slightly, push the bolt through and tighten the self-locking nut to specification.

Some vehicles have a sound absorber - arrow - on the clutch pedal bracket.






- Bring the sound absorber back into its installed position.






- Install the impact bolster support - 2 - and tighten the bolt - 1 - to specification.






- Install the wire guide - 1 - to the steering column.

The tabs - arrow - on both sides must clip into the column.

- Install the ground wire to the steering column and install the nut - arrow -.






- Install the left footwell vent.

- Install the drivers side trim and the cover under the trim. Refer to "Storage Compartments, Covers and Trim".
