Passive Occupant Detection System Safety Precautions

After every repair on the passenger seat in which the seat cover was "replaced", a basic setting on the passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) must be performed. Use the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B) to perform the basic setting.

Do not bend the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452).

Seat occupied recognition components must not come in contact with grease.

There is the danger that the seat occupied recognition components may be damaged by sharp objects when working on the seat. It is necessary to avoid this danger.

Route the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) must be positioned without wrinkles.

Make sure the seat cushion and the seat cover are installed correctly.

Always install the seat heating element (if equipped) under the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452).

Replace all upholstery clips. Make sure the seat cushion is positioned correctly.

System basic setting is only possible at temperatures between 32° and 104° F (0° Celsius and +40° C).
