Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Bracket (2024 A /1)
• Counterhold (3145)
• Shackles 8 mm diameter (available commercially)
• M10x30 bolt and nut
Removing
Move the front seat to the highest position. This reduces the spring force when removing and installing the torsion bar and the risk of damaging the threaded connections between the upper and lower seat frames.
The general safety precautions for working on airbag, belt tensioner and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnic components) must be observed. - Attach the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) to the engine/transmission holder (VAS 6095).
- Remove the front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat ] Front Seat.
- Secure the seat on the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).
- Remove front belt latch. Refer to => [ Front Belt Latch ] Front Belt Latch.
- Remove the trim on the tunnel side. Refer to => [ Tunnel Side Trim ] Tunnel Side Trim.
- Remove the backrest adjustment wheel. Refer to => [ Backrest Adjusting Wheel ] Backrest Adjusting Wheel.
- Remove the seat height adjustment handle. Refer to => [ Seat Height Adjustment Handle ] Seat Height Adjustment Handle.
- Remove the trim on the door sill side. Refer to => [ Door Sill Side Trim ] Door Sill Side Trim.
- Remove the backrest. Refer to => [ Front Backrest ] Front Backrest.
The torsion bar exhibits considerable spring force. Always follow the points below to avoid accidents:
• Always remove and install the torsion bar in the sequence described and only using the tools specified.
• Never use pliers and other levers.
• Do not stand directly in front of the torsion bar when removing and installing it. Stand off to the side.
- Secure the counter-holder (3145) with the bracket (2024 A /1) and shackle - 2 - on the torsion bar - 3 - as illustrated.

4 Seat pan
- Carefully rotate the torsion bar - 1 - until it disengages from the oblong hole - arrow - on the seat pan.
- Remove the torsion bar - 1 - and the extension (2024 A /1) from the lower seat frame - 2 -.
Installation
The torsion bar exhibits considerable spring force. Always follow the points below to avoid accidents:
• Always remove and install the torsion bar in the sequence described and only using the tools specified.
• Never use pliers and other levers.
• Do not stand directly in front of the torsion bar when removing and installing it. Stand off to the side.
- Slide the torsion bar - 1 - into the mount until the end - arrow - comes into contact with the seat pan - 2 -.
- Make sure that the torsion bar - 2 - correctly sits in the bracket - arrow - of the seat pan - 1 -.
- Mount the handle (3145) with the bracket (2024 A /1) and threaded connection - 3 -, but without the shackle, to the torsion bar - 1 -.
2 Seat pan
- Carefully turn torsion bar - 1 - until it can be hooded in the slot - arrow - of the seat pan.
Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
