Auxiliary Cabin Heater: Testing and Inspection






Auxiliary Air Heater Heating Element (Z35), Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System with inductive pickup 100A (VAS 5051B/7)






Test Conditions

Intake temperature less than 19° C (66° F).

Coolant temperature less than 80° C (176° F).

Passenger compartment temperature approximately 20° C (68° F).

Battery voltage greater than 11 volts.

Alternator load not greater than 50% (terminal DF).

Engine speed greater than 450 rpm.

Position the interior temperature to "max heat" on the controls for the heat and fresh air

Test Sequence

- Remove the driver footwell vent. Refer to => [ Footwell Vent, Driver Side ] Footwell Vent, Driver Side.

- Remove the left footwell (in the middle console). Refer to Storage Compartments, Covers and Trim.

- Measure the current draw on the ground cable - arrow - using the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System and the trigger clamp 100A (VAS 5051B).






Slight heat output approx. 30 A

Medium heat out approx. 60 A

Large heat output approx. 80 A
