Pressure Relieve Valve on A/C Compressor, Checking

• The relief valve protects the entire refrigerant circuit against excessive pressures.

There is a danger of ice-up.

Check valve drains coolant when engine is running and pressure in coolant circuit is too high.

Turn engine off.

• The pressure relief valve - arrow - has operated when refrigerant oil is found in the close vicinity.

• In this case, check the previously described capacity for the refrigerant circuit.

• Extract the refrigerant with the Robinair A/C Service Unit (ROB 134APF) (or newer models) from the refrigerant circuit and fill it up to the proper capacity.
