Battery Inside Luggage Compartment

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Removing

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the central venting hose - 1 - from the battery connection.






- Remove the bolt - 1 - and the bracket - 2 -.






- Fold up the handles - arrows - and remove the battery.






Installing

If battery is not secured properly, the following risks are possible:

Shortened battery service life due damage caused by vibration (explosion hazard).

The plates inside the battery can get damaged if the battery is not secured properly.

Damage to the battery housing caused by bracket (possible electrolyte leakage, high subsequent costs).

Reduced collision safety.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Tighten the threaded connections to the specification given in the overview. Refer to => [ Battery Overview ] Battery Overview.

- Make sure the battery is seated correctly after installing it.

- Connect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

For batteries with central venting system hose, make sure the hose is not kinked while installing. Only in this way can the battery be vented freely.

Make sure that central gas venting hose - 1 - is inserted into rubber grommet - 2 -.






For batteries without hose for central venting system, make sure the opening on the upper cover side of battery is not clogged.
