Battery Inside Luggage Compartment

Disconnecting

Risk of injury. Refer to => [ Warnings and Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

To disconnect battery, anti-theft alarm system must be deactivated. Refer to => [ Anti-Theft Alarm System, Activating and Deactivating ] Anti-Theft Alarm System, Activating and Deactivating.

Always ensure the vehicle electrical system is protected by disconnecting the battery negative ( - ) terminal (interrupted current flow to ground) prior to servicing key areas of the electrical system as specified in this repair information. Disconnecting the battery positive ( B+) terminal must only be performed as required to remove battery from vehicle, and must only be carried out after the negative ( - ) terminal is disconnected. However, observe notes for connecting battery in any case.

The battery is installed in the left side of the luggage compartment in vehicles with the 3.6L V6 gasoline engine.

- Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers and move the ignition key or start button into the 0 position (preliminary engaged position).

- Remove the service cover - 1 - from the side trim panel - 2 - in the direction of the arrow.






- Remove the ground cable - 1 - from the battery negative pole first.






- Open pole cover - arrow - of battery positive pole.

- Then, remove battery terminal clamp of positive wire - 2 - from battery positive terminal.

Connecting

Observe notes for threaded connections of battery terminals.

After connecting the battery and switching on the ignition, the ASR/ESP Control Lamp (K155) and Electro-mechanical Power Steering Indicator Lamp light up continuously. The indicator lamps switch off automatically after driving straight ahead at 15 to 20 km/h. This activates Steering Angle Sensor (G85).

- Connect the positive battery terminal clamp - 2 - to the battery positive terminal and tighten the bolt to the specification. Refer to => [ Battery Overview ] Battery Overview.

The positive cable battery terminal must be turned in the direction of vehicle travel.

- Connect the ground wire battery terminal clamp - 1 - to the battery negative terminal and tighten the mounting bolt to the specification shown in => [ Battery Overview ] Battery Overview.

- Close pole cover - arrow -.






- Perform the work procedures in the table.
