Access/Start Authorization Control Module (J518)

The access/start authorization control module controls all access/start authorization functions.

The access/start authorization control module is located in the driver footwell above the brake pedal.

The access/start authorization system must be coded after the access/start authorization control module has been replaced. Refer to=> [ Access/Start Authorization Control Module (J518), Coding ] Programming and Relearning.

Removal

- Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the ignition key.

- Remove the driver footwell vent.

- Remove the trim in the driver footwell.

• To remove the Access/start authorization control module (J518) and its bracket from the pedal bracket, the steering column must be lowered.

Follow the instructions for working with and transporting the steering column.

- Unscrew the two mounting bolts - 2 -.






- Unscrew the bolt - 1 - and remove the crash strut of the clutch pedal - 2 -.






- Unscrew the bolt - 3 - and remove the crash strut of the brake pedal - 4 -.

- Lower the steering column just enough so the access/start authorization control module can be removed from the pedal bracket.






- Open the latching mechanism - arrow - and remove the access/start authorization control module - 2 - together with the bracket - 3 - from the brake pedal bracket. Pay attention to the connected wires.

- Release and disconnect the harness connector - 1 - and remove the access/start authorization control module - 2 - from the bracket - 3 -.

Installation

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:






- Install the access/start authorization control module (J518) - 2 - in the bracket - 3 -.

- Slide the bracket and control module onto the guides on the brake pedal bracket until it locks in place.

- Connect the connector - 1 -.
