Rear Lid Assistant (HDA)

The rear lid assistant prevents rear lid collisions when operating the convertible top. It has a monitoring area adapted in relation to the parking aid system, Park Distance Control (PDC) and warns the driver acoustically and via a text message on the instrument cluster or by halting operation of the convertible top, which may be continued by operating the convertible top switch again.

The rear lid assistant system is integrated in the parking aid system or parallel parking assistance system depending on the equipment. During convertible top operation, the rear lid assistant system takes precedence over the parking aid system or parallel parking assistance system.

• Prior to opening or closing the CSC roof, the rear lid assistant checks via the parking aid sensors whether there is sufficient space behind the vehicle to tilt out the rear lid.

• If an obstacle is detected, convertible top operation stops. In contrast to the parking aid, the rear lid assistant does not involve an acoustic warning. Remove objects in the rear area or move the vehicle slightly forward to provide sufficient space for tilting out the rear lid.

• If the lever for opening or closing the CSC roof is operated again after automatic stopping of convertible top operation after detection of an object in the rear area, convertible top operation is continued after several seconds. If an object in the rear area is detected again, convertible top operation is not automatically stopped. Instead, a warning is shown on the instrument cluster display.

• If after halting of the operation of the convertible top the process is continued by operating the convertible top switch again, no monitoring via the sensors occurs - risk of damage!

• Before the rear lid enters the detection range of the sensors, the rear lid assistant is deactivated. After deactivation, intervening obstructions are not detected!

• Before troubleshooting or servicing, the technicians must be familiar with the function and operation of parking aid system and of the rear lid assistant (HDA) system.
