General Description
Headlamps with an HID lamp and cornering lamp (AFS = adaptive front lighting system) have the Bi-Xenon function.
HID lamps generate only the low beam in standard Xenon headlamps. Bi-Xenon allows one gas-discharge lamp to generate low beam and high beam headlamp. An electromechanical adjuster ( left low beam headlamp reflector motor (V294) or right low beam headlamp reflector motor (V295) ) opens the dimmed area of the low beam when high beams are activated and a high beam light emission results.
For this reason, the high beam is also adjusted automatically with the low beam on "Bi-Xenon" headlamps.
Headlamps with HID lamps and a cornering lamp do not have auxiliary high beams.
DTC Recognition and Display
Automatic headlamp range control, cornering lamps and vehicle electrical system control are equipped with On Board Diagnostic (OBD) which assists troubleshooting of headlamps with HID lamps and cornering lamps.
For fault finding, use the Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS5051B) in "Guided Fault Finding" function.
• The indicator lamp "bulb failure" lights up in the instrument cluster when the headlamp range control or AFS (adaptive front lighting system) system malfunctions.
