Rain/Light Recognition Sensor (G397)

Rain/Light Recognition Sensor (G397)

The rain/light recognition sensor is designed so that it can be used again. The only requirement to use it again is that the connecting pad must not be damaged.

Ensure that the removed Rain/light recognition sensor is stored in a dust-free area and that the silicone connecting pads are not dirty.

If a rain/light recognition sensor is replaced by a sensor with a different part number, the new rain/light recognition sensor must be coded. Refer to=> [ Rain/Light Recognition Sensor (G397), Coding ] Testing and Inspection.

Rain/light recognition sensors cannot be optionally installed. Be sure to use the correct rain sensor. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog.

Removal

- Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the ignition key.

- Remove the interior rearview mirror.

- Disconnect the harness connector - A - from the rain/light recognition sensor (G397) - 1 -.

- Use a suitable slotted screwdriver to pry the rain/light recognition sensor - 1 - at the cut-out - 3 - out of the retaining plate - 2 -.

During removal, pry off the complete rain/light recognition sensor and not just the upper shell of the sensor.

Installation

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Always clean the windshield surface inside the rain/light recognition sensor bracket prior to installation. Remove any traces of the connecting pad still remaining on the windshield.

The surface (connecting pads) of the rain/light recognition sensor must not be dirty or damaged during installation. Always replace a sensor that has a damaged connecting pad.

If the surface (connecting pads) of the rain/light recognition sensor is dirty, it can be potentially cleaned by applying and then removing one or more adhesive strips.

- Thoroughly clean the windshield inside the retaining plate with cleaning solution.

- Remove the protective cap from the new rain/light recognition sensor (G397) if necessary.

- Install the rain/light recognition sensor - 1 - in the retaining plate on the windshield - 2 - and then press firmly on it.

Even if the sensor is installed correctly, small air bubbles can form between the windshield and the connecting pad. The contact surface must be free-of-bubbles after approximately 10 minutes.

- Connect the harness connector - A - and install the wire cover to secure the rain/light recognition sensor.

- Install the interior rearview mirror.

- If a new sensor was installed, code the rain/light recognition sensor. Refer to=> [ Rain/Light Recognition Sensor (G397), Coding ] Testing and Inspection.
