Level Control System Indicator Lamps
Level Control System Indicator Lamps
Indicator Lamps
Brake Pad Wear Indicator Lamp (K32)
• If the brake pad wear indicator lamp - 2 - does not switch off 3 seconds after the ignition is turned on, or if it lights up when the vehicle is driven, it could be caused by the following malfunctions:
- a -: The brake pads may be worn.
Check the front and rear brake pads/linings. Replace worn pads/linings.
- b -: There is a wiring malfunction.
ABS Indicator Lamp (K47)
• If the ABS indicator lamp - 3 - does not go out after the ignition is turned on and the test sequence is complete, it could be caused by the following errors:
- a -: The voltage supply is under 10 volts.
- b -: There is a fault in the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS).
The ABS system shuts off if there is malfunction in the system, however the standard brake system remains fully functional.
- c -: There was a periodic wheel speed sensor malfunction since the last vehicle start.
In this case the ABS indicator lamp will go out after the engine is restarted and the vehicle speed exceeds 20 km/h (12 mph).
- d -: The connection from the instrument cluster to the ABS control module is interrupted.
- e -: The instrument cluster is faulty.
ABS Indicator Lamp (K47) and Brake System Indicator Lamp (K118)
• If the ABS indicator lamp - 3 - goes out but the brake system indicator lamp - 4 - lights up, the malfunctions causes may be:
- a -: The parking brake is engaged.
- b -: The brake fluid level is too low (warning lamp blinks).
Three warning tones will sound after turning on the ignition.
- c -: There is a malfunction in the wiring to the brake system indicator lamp.
• If the ABS indicator lamp - 3 - and the brake system indicator lamp - 4 - both light up, the ABS system is faulty. A change in braking behavior should be checked.
After the ABS indicator lamp and the brake system indicator lamp light up, the rear wheels may lock prematurely when braking.
Traction Control Indicator Lamp (K86)
• If the traction control indicator lamp - 1 - does not go out after the ignition is turned on and the test sequence is complete, malfunction causes may be:
There is a malfunction present which only affects the Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR). The ABS and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBV) systems on the vehicle remain fully functional. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory, checking.
- a -: There is a short to positive (+) in the ASR/ESP button.
- b -: A malfunction in activation of the traction control indicator lamp.
- c -: The traction control was turned off using the ASR/ESP button.
If the traction control indicator lamp blinks while driving, the ASR system is operating in regulated mode.
• If the traction control indicator lamp - 1 - did not light up during the self-test, the following malfunction is present:
- a -: The traction control indicator lamp is faulty, perform an electrical test.
ASR/ESP Indicator Lamp (K155)
• If the ASR/ESP indicator lamp - 1 - does not turn off after the ignition is turned on and the test sequence is completed, the malfunction may be:
There is a malfunction present which only affects the ASR/ESP. The ABS/Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) and Electronic Brake-Pressure Distribution (EBD) safety systems are still completely functional, check the DTC memory.
- a -: There is a short circuit to positive (+) in the ASR/ESP button.
- b -: There is a malfunction in the actuation of the ASR/ESP indicator lamp.
- c -: The ASR/ESP system was turned off using the ASR/ESP button.
If the ASR/ESP indicator lamp flashes while driving, the ASR or ESP systems are regulating the system.
• If the ASR/ESP indicator lamp - 1 - did not light up during the self test, the following malfunction is present:
- a -: The ASR/ESP indicator lamp is faulty. Perform an electrical test.
