Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Resetting & Extracting Tool (T10165)
Removing
When removing, mark the brake pads in case they will be reused. Install them in the same position, otherwise the braking effect will be uneven!
- Remove the wheels.
- Counter hold the guide pins and remove the bolts from the brake caliper.
- Remove the brake caliper and secure it with wire so that the weight of the brake caliper does not burden or damage the brake hose.
- Remove the brake pads.
Cleaning
Do not use compressed air on the brake system, the dust produced is harmful to health!
- Thoroughly clean the contact surfaces for the brake pads on the brake carrier and remove any corrosion.
- Clean the brake caliper, especially the adhesive surfaces for the brake pads, they must be free of residual adhesive and grease.
Use only appropriate solvents for cleaning the brake caliper.
Installing
Before pressing the piston into the cylinder using the piston resetting tool, brake fluid must be extracted from the brake fluid reservoir. Otherwise, especially if the reservoir has been topped off, fluid will overflow and cause damage.
- Install the piston by turning the knurled wheel on the resetting & extracting tool (T10165) clockwise, do not damage the cap.
- Use the component part of T10165 tool (T10165/1) for assistance when installing.
• For pistons that are difficult to move, a 13 mm open end wrench can be used at the appropriate wrench surface - arrow A -.
- Remove the protective foil on the brake pad backing plates.
- Insert the brake pads in the brake carrier.
When installing the brake caliper, make sure that brake pads are not affixed to the brake caliper before the correct installed position has been reached.
- Secure the brake caliper using new self-locking bolts.
• The repair kit includes 4 self-locking bolts which must be installed in all cases.
- Install the wheels.
• After replacing the brake pads, press the brake pedal firmly several times with the vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
• Check the brake fluid level after replacing the brake pads.
