Clutch Hydraulic System: Description and Operation

Clutch System Component Overviews

Obtain the anti-theft code for the radio before disconnecting the battery.

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery ground cable.

Lubricate all bearing areas and contact surfaces.

For the correct grease allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.

Clutch Pedal






1 Bulkhead

With the studs for the mounting bracket.

2 Gasket

Always replace.

Between the mounting bracket and the bulkhead.

With self-adhesive.

Attached to the mounting bracket.

3 Mounting Bracket

For clutch pedal mounting.

Some equipment versions have a sound absorber installed. Refer to => [ Bracket with Sound Absorber ].

Removing and installing, refer to the following:

4 Bolt

5 Over-Center Spring

Removing and installing, refer to the following:

6 Bushing

8 Clutch Pedal

Removing and installing, refer to the following:

9 Mount

To remove and install, detach the master cylinder from the clutch pedal. Refer to the following:

10 Gasket

Always replace.

Between the master cylinder and the mounting bracket.

11 Clutch Master Cylinder

Remove and install after removing the mounting bracket. Refer to => [ Master Cylinder ] Service and Repair.

12 Clutch Position Sensor (G476)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Clutch Position Sensor (G476) ] Service and Repair.

Can be checked in "Guided Fault Finding" using the vehicle diagnostic tester.

The clutch position sensor is called the clutch pedal switch (F36) in "Guided Fault Finding".

13 Clip

The clip must be removed in order to remove/install the hose/line assembly.

14 Supply Hose

Rubber

On the Golf from MY 2010, the hose is made of plastic. Refer to => [ Plastic Supply Hose ].

15 Self-Locking Nut

25 Nm

Always replace.

Quantity: 3

For the mounting bracket to the bulkhead.

16 Nut

25 Nm

Always replace.

17 Jounce Bumper

For the clutch pedal.

1 Brake Fluid Reservoir

2 Spring Clamp

Not installed on all vehicles.

3 Supply Hose

Rubber

On the Golf from MY 2010, the hose is made of plastic. Refer to => [ Plastic Supply Hose ].

4 Clutch Master Cylinder

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Master Cylinder ] Service and Repair.

5 Clip

The clip must be removed in order to remove/install the hose/line assembly.

6 Mount

To remove and install, disconnect the master cylinder from the clutch pedal. Refer to the following:

7 Clutch Pedal

Removing and installing, refer to the following:

Golf from MY 2010, refer to => [ Clutch Pedal ] Clutch Pedal.

8 Nut

For the tightening specification, see - item 15 - in => [ Clutch Pedal ].

9 Seal/O-ring

Installed on the hose/line assembly connection.

Install using brake fluid.

Seal/O-ring type, refer to => [ Seal/O-ring Type for the Hose/Line Assembly ].

For the correct allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.

10 Hose/Line Assembly

For the correct allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.

To remove/install the hose/line assembly, the battery and battery tray must be removed.

11 Bracket

Attached to the body.

12 Seal/O-ring

Installed on the hose/line assembly connection.

Install using brake fluid.

Seal/O-ring type, refer to => [ Seal/O-ring Type for the Hose/Line Assembly ].

For the correct allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.

13 Clip

The clip must be removed in order to remove/install the hose/line assembly.

14 Clutch Slave Cylinder

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Slave Cylinder ] Service and Repair.

15 Bolt

For the tightening specification, see - item 19 - in => [ Clutch Release Mechanism Overview ] Description and Operation.

16 Vent Valve

Clutch system, bleeding. Refer to => [ Clutch System, Bleeding ] Service and Repair.

Seal/O-ring Type for the Hose/Line Assembly










The seal/O-ring must be installed in the groove - arrows 1 and 3 -.

The seals - 2 - must be inside the supply hose - 1 -.
