Brake Caliper, FN3

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Brake Pedal Actuator (V.A.G 1869/2)

Removing

This procedure applies only for replacing or when performing subsequent service work on brake caliper.

- Remove the wheels.

- Using a screwdriver, pry off the brake pad retaining spring from the brake caliper and remove it.

- Disconnect the connector for the brake pad wear indicator.

- Connect the bleed hose from the bleeder bottle to the bleed valve on the brake caliper and then open the bleed valve.

- Install the brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2).

- Close the bleed valve and remove the bleeder bottle.

- Remove the brake hose.

- Remove both caps from the bushings on the brake caliper.

- Loosen both guide pins and remove them from the brake caliper.

- Remove the brake caliper from the brake carrier.

- Remove the brake pads from the brake caliper.

Installing

The piston is pressed back.

The outer brake pad sits on the brake carrier.

- Insert the inner brake pad with the retaining spring in the brake caliper (piston).

When installing the brake caliper, make sure that brake pad is not affixed to the brake caliper before the correct installed position has been reached.

Do not damage the adhesion surface.

- Tighten the brake caliper to brake carrier using both guide pins.

- Install the caps.

- Install the brake hose to the brake caliper.

- Remove the brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2).

- Install the retaining spring in the brake caliper.

- Connect the brake pad wear indicator connector.

- Bleed the brake system. Refer to => [ Brake System, Bleeding ] Service and Repair.

- Install the wheels.

Before moving the vehicle, press the brake pedal firmly several times to properly seat the brake pads in their normal operating position.

Check the brake fluid level.
