Brake Caliper, CII 41
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Brake Pedal Actuator (V.A.G 1869/2)
Removing
This procedure applies only for replacing or when performing subsequent service work on brake caliper.
- Remove the rear wheels.
- Disengage the parking brake cable - 1 - from the lever on the brake caliper - 2 -.
- Squeeze the tabs - 3 - and remove the parking brake cable from the bracket - 4 - on the brake caliper.
- Connect the bleed hose - 1 - from the bleeder bottle to the brake caliper bleed valve and open the bleed valve.
- Install the brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2).
- Close the bleed valve and remove the bleeder bottle.
- Loosen the threaded connection for the brake line - 3 - to the brake hose - 2 -.
- Remove the spring clamp - 1 - and remove the brake hose - 2 - from the bracket.
- Counter hold the guide pins and remove both bolts from the brake caliper.
- Pull off brake caliper from the brake carrier.
Installing
• The piston is pressed back.
• The brake pads sit in the brake pad retaining plates on the brake carrier.
- Secure the brake caliper to the brake carrier using new self-locking bolts.
- Install the brake line - 3 - and the brake hose - 2 - and secure with the spring clamp - 1 -.
- Guide the parking brake cable through the bracket - 4 - on the brake caliper until the tabs - 3 - engage.
- Engage the parking brake cable - 1 - in the lever - 2 - on the brake caliper.
- Bleed the brake system. Refer to => [ Brake System, Bleeding ] Service and Repair.
- Adjust the parking brake. Refer to => [ Parking Brake, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
- Install the wheels.
• Before moving the vehicle, press the brake pedal firmly several times to properly seat the brake pads in their normal operating position.
• Check the brake fluid level.
