Side Upholstery with Side Airbag

• The removal and installation procedure describes the right side cushion. The same instructions apply for the left side cushion.

Removing


Read the Safety Instructions for working with airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions.

- Disconnect the battery.

Sedan

- Remove the seat bench.

Wagon

- Fold the bench seat forward.

All vehicles

- Remove nut - 1 - (8 Nm).

- Fold backrest forward.

- If present, remove the cover cap and loosen the bolt - 2 - (8 Nm).

- Pull the side cushion - 5 - upward out of the mounts - 3 - and - 4 - in the body.


Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore, mechanic must electrostatic discharge him-/herself before disconnecting harness connector. This is done, for example, by briefly grasping the chassis or door striker.

- Disconnect wiring harness from rear side airbag.






Installing

- Install in reverse order of removal.

- Switch on ignition.


Make sure no one is in the vehicle.

- Connect vehicle battery.
