Power Steering Pump
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose Clamps up to 25 mm diameter (3094)
• Torque Wrench 5-50 Nm (V.A.G 1331)
Removing
For all repair work, especially in the engine compartment due to the tight working conditions, observe the following:
• Route lines of all types (for example for fuel, hydraulic, EVAP canister system, coolant and refrigerant, brake fluid, vacuum) correctly. The original path must be followed.
• Make sure to allow sufficient clearance for all moving or hot components.
- Clamp off suction and return hose on the power steering fluid reservoir.

- Loosen the bolts - arrows -.
- Remove ribbed belt.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the belt pulley - 1 -.
- Remove the nut - 1 - and the pressure line from the power steering pump.
- Open spring clamp and pull suction hose - 2 - off the power steering pump.
- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove power steering pump - 1 - from retainer.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
• Replace seals and gaskets.
• Before installing the new power steering pump on the intake side, fill the hydraulic oil and install it by hand until oil drains out on the high pressure side.
• Hose supports and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installation.
• Secure all hose connections with new hose clamps. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
- Install power steering pump.
- Install ribbed belt, and then check ribbed belt alignment.
• Make sure the ribbed belt fits correctly in the belt pulley.
- Bleed steering system. Refer to => [ Hydraulic Power Steering System, Bleeding ] Service and Repair.
- Check the hydraulic fluid level and fill if necessary. Refer to Maintenance Procedures.
- Check the steering system for leaks. Refer to => [ Steering System, Checking for Leaks ] Steering System, Checking for Leaks.
