For sporadic concerns and other functionality problems see instance 2024337 Factory Installed Media-In (MDI), Updated Programming for Various iPod Concerns. This updates the MDI to software 0240.

MDI Cable Diagnosis
The following concerns can be checked by manipulating the cable or by substituting a known good cable:
^ Sporadic or complete loss of left and/or right audio channel
^ iPod battery charging is intermittent
^ Device not recognized

Tip:
The new iPod tagging cable only recognizes iPod Nano gen 5+ and newer iPod/iPhones. For more information see instance 2026784 Multimedia Interface (MDI), iPod Tagging Overview.

If functionality returns after cable manipulation, then replace cable.

Tip:
Older iPods may not connect securely due to connector design changes. To verify MDI cable integrity test the connection with a newer compatible iPod or iPhone device.
