Valve Guide: Service and Repair






Valve Guides, Replacing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Drift (3121)






Hand reamer (3120)






Cutting oil

Perform the following:

Removing

- Cleaning and checking cylinder head.

Do not re-work the cylinder heads any more:

If the valve seat rings cannot be re-worked any more. Pay attention to the minimum dimensions. Refer to => [ Valve Seats, Reworking ] Service and Repair.

If the sealing surface was worked to the minimum dimension - a -.

Reworking dimension, cylinder head:






- a -: at least 132.6 mm

If the sealing surface is reworked, then place the valves deeper. The valve seat rings must be re-worked. Otherwise the valve will hit up against the pistons.

Be careful not to exceed the minimum dimension. Refer to => [ Valve Seats, Reworking ] Service and Repair.

- Remove any worn valve guides from the camshaft sprocket side using a drift (3121).

Remove worn valve guides from the combustion side with the shouldered repair guide.

Installing

- Replace the valve guides and coat them with oil.

- Insert the guides with the drift (3121) from the camshaft sprocket side up to the collar in the cold cylinder head.


After the guide with the shoulder is seated, the pressing force may not be increased over 1.0 t). Other wise the collar could break off.

- Hone the valve guide with the hand reamer (3120).

Always use cutting oil for this.

- Rework valve seats => [ Valve Seats, Reworking ] Service and Repair.
